FAQ's
What type of sessions do you shoot?
I specialize in newborns, but also photograph children and families.
Do you use natural or studio lighting?
I strictly use natural lighting. Because of this, timing of your session is important and the weather does become a factor. Even if you have an inside newborn session scheduled, the weather can affect your session.
How do I book a session?
You can use the contact form on my website (www.meganlanephoto.com) or you can send an email directly to megan {at} meganlanephoto {dot} com. We will communicate about what type of session you're interested in, go over pricing, and answer any other questions you might have. Once you have submitted your session agreement that is completed online, a Paypal invoice will be sent to you to pay your non-refundable retainer to secure your spot on the calendar.
Where are you located?
I split my time between Columbia, NC and Zebulon, NC. I set up an in-home studio at each location. Majority of the time I am in Columbia (eastern North Carolina) Friday afternoons-Mondays and in Zebulon (30 minutes east of Raleigh) Tuesdays-Friday mornings.
How much do you charge?
Session fees vary depending on the type of session. Please note that a 6.75% NC State Tax is in addition to any pricing information provided on my website
Do you require a non-refundable retainer fee?
Yes. A $50 non-refundable retainer is required to reserve your session date on the calendar.
How does your pricing work?
Your balance (less your $50 non-refundable retainer fee) is due at the time of your session.
How do I order my images?
Atleast 2 weeks after your session you will be emailed a link to your online gallery. All ordering can be done through this website. If you prefer a in-person proofing appointment we can certainly set that up.
Need help with what to order?
I have a program that allows you to see just what your images will look like when displayed in lots of different arrangements. I can also take a photo of your wall in your home that you'd like to display your photos on and I can show you various combinations of images in your actual space.
When should I book my newborn session?
As soon as possible. Its a great idea to get your due date on my schedule as soon as possible. Being back and forth between two locations and hauling props back and forth, it helps for me to keep in mind when I have a client's due date approaching so I can make sure I have the majority of my props at the correct location. Once your bundle arrives, please contact me within 48 hours so that we can set a date and time for your newborn session within the best time frame. When it comes to newborn session timing is important. Session that take place within the first seven days of birth tend to make the best portraits. Newborn sessions can be done up until 2 weeks. During these time frames the baby is still sleeping a lot which makes it easier to move and mold babies into different positions. If your newborn has already arrived I cannot guarantee to work you in before they reach the 2 week mark. I will schedule your session up to 4 weeks old and attempt a newborn session, but the risk of non-sleepiness, ability to not pose as well, baby acne, and other factors increase.
How do I prepare for my newborn session?
A few days before your session I will email you with tricks and tips for a sleepy baby, what to wear and what to expect. If these tips are followed, the majority of my sessions run smoothly. I've actually been called the baby whisperer by some parents.
