Happy Thanksgiving!

With the leaves of autumn falling, it’s time to go shopping and get cooking for Thanksgiving day! From turkey and stuffing to mashed potatoes and pumpkin pie, it’s arguably the best holiday of the year.

However, Thanksgiving is about more than good food. It’s about people—family, friends and good times. Before the hustle and bustle of the holidays are upon us, with long lines and crowded parking lots, find a moment to take in the beauty of the season and the warmth of family and friends. These are the moments that are truly priceless.

I want to let you know that I am grateful for the opportunity to help you document life’s precious memories year after year. It is an honor to be in your life and a pleasure to serve you and your family. Happy Thanksgiving.

Warmest regards,
Megan

Contest has been Extended!

Let's celebrate photography, families, and the fact that Megan Lane Photography has now passed 450 'likes' on its Facebook Page!! I decided to mix things up a little with this contest to create an opportunity for me to get to know YOU better; what your family is like, and more of your personality! This is an opportunity for you to get a session with Megan Lane Photography and save on your family photos too! So, if you've thought about, or wanted a session from MLP, now's the time!

How to enter:
1. Take a picture of something your family loves to do. Get creative! You can have members of your family in it. You can be abstract, get high, get down low, spell out at word with something creative, try a different point of view. Take your photograph in full sun, in the shade, out at the park, whatever. I'm looking for a mix of creativeness & personality. So, make it more than just a snapshot!
2. Save your image file that you wish to submit by putting your family's name in the file name, i.e. JonesFamily.jpg would work fine.
3. Email to megan{at}meganlanephoto{dot}com.

The Fine Print:
1. You can enter up to 2 photos for every family. But, the two photos cannot be taken by the same member. So, give your camera to your 2 year old and see what they come up with!
2. The contest will close at Midnight on Sunday, December 5th. I figure that gives you 2 more weekends to come up with something awesome. And the winner will be announced later in the week.
3. This is not for extended families. Sorry. Immediate family only, but it can be just two of you if you don't have kids yet.
4. Get your friends involved and have them enter too!

What you win (the fun part!):
Grand Prize: Complimentary Family Session, 11×14 Wall Print & 30% off any other prints/digital files ordered.
Second Prize: Complimentary Family Session
Third Prize: $25 restaurant gift card

*Winning sessions must be scheduled to take place between January and April 2011.

Any questions?? Get shootin'! (with your cameras, silly!)

Greater Tyrrell County Chamber of Commerce Golf Tournament

On October 9th, the Greater Tyrrell County Chamber of Commerce held their first ever Golf Tournament across the Albemarle Sound at the Chowan County Country Club. The chamber couldn't have asked for a more beautiful day.

Albemarle Boats was a Hole-in-One sponsor. If anyone hit a hold-in-one they would have won this beautiful boat. But, it wasn't meant to be that day.

Take it or Leave it | CHAIRish the Children

Just thought I'd share one thing today and its definitely a TAKE IT!

Photobucket

On one of the many blogs that I follow I found this really cool site called CHAIRish the Children. This group raises funds and awareness for abused/neglected children. They do this by hosting fundraisers, but one particular fundraiser caught my eye. For this fundraiser they sell uniquely designed chairs. Talk about creativity! Check out some of the chairs that are up for bidding now.

Fun Desk:
If I was still teaching and had a classroom, this would be a MUST have!

Gumball Chair:

You can bid on these chairs and see others that are up for bid by visiting THIS SITE.

Stacy + Justin | Columbia Wedding Photographer

Justin and I grew up in the small town of Columbia. When we were in middle school a new girl joined our class and who would have thought that her and Justin would now be married, many years later. Stacy and Justin became good friends and even kept in touch through Instant Messenger off and on after high school. During her Sophomore year of college it grew into a more serious relationship and they officially started dating in 2002.

Stacy and Justin say they've never been a traditional couple therefore they went together to look at engagement rings in 2008 and Justin bought the first one she fell in love with. Stacy liked that it wasn't your traditional type of engagement ring. It has 4 princess cut diamonds in the center, surrounded by diamonds on all sides and down the band. It has an antique look that she loved. Instead of Justin go ahead and giving Stacy the ring right there he wanted to give it to her when she least expected it. Stacy says that she's a simple girl and didn't need flowers or candles. When Justin proposed, she said it was just that. On December 28th 2008, he was at her apartment and simply looked at her and asked her to marry him. Fast forward almost two years later and their wedding day had arrived!

After bridal party and family shots, I stole Justin and Stacy away for a few shots!

When I asked Stacy what one of her favorite dates that her and Justin had, she told me about one time they went to the beach, sat in the sand, and collected little shells that were all around us. Justin found one that looked like a heart and passed it to her, telling her he loved her. She said that she still has all of the shells that we picked up that day and  they are displayed in a jar in their house.

I couldn't decide if I liked the photo above or the one below more, so I just thought I'd share both! :)

Justin and Stacy danced to the song Better Today by Coffey Anderson. I'd never heard the song before but loved it.

The cake was delicious and made by Justin's step-sister.

The girls did lots of line dancing during the reception!

Love this shot of the bouquet toss. Look how close that catch was...

Photobucket

Stacy + Justin were so good about having photos of just the two of them. I can't stress how important this is for a bride and groom to take moments away from the crowd to enjoy each other and let me photograph them too! :) During the reception I stole them away from the guests to take photos of Stacy + Justin again just as the sun was setting out on the dock of the Eastern Center.

Stacy + Justin- Thank you for being my friends and for letting me be a part of your big day! You too are adorable together! xoxo- Megan

Allison Olivia | Newborn Baby Photographer

I knew Allison's Daddy from when he was stationed in my home town county. After he moved away I was fortunate enough to meet his then girlfriend, now wife, Kelli at a few Kenny Chesney concerts that a crowd of us went to together. A few weeks ago I was introduced to their new bundle of joy and boy is she precious! I'll let you see for yourself...

Since Ken is a state trooper we decided we'd take a few shots of him with his uniform on. Here's what we came up with. I think we got a few that are great for his desk at work!

I think this next shot is one of my favorites I've taken at a newborn session lately. I love the joy beaming from Ken and Kelli's face as they watch Allison sleep.

Ken + Kelli- thank you so much for having me be a part of these first memories that you'll have with Allison. I hope to see you all again soon!
